Hydroseeding mulch application rates
Mulch is specified by pounds of material per area, never by tank gallons. Water is just the carrier. These are the working bands by mulch class:

Rate climbs with slope
For bonded and flexible matrices (BFM/HECP and FGM), the published rate ladder scales with steepness — the steeper and higher-risk the face, the more material it takes to hold:

How many pounds of mulch per hydroseeder load?
This is the number that actually governs production, and it is not the tank size. A machine's real limit is how much of a given fiber it can carry and still mix and pump. Thick wood fiber loads heaviest, paper loads lightest:

Two practical consequences: a jet-agitated machine generally carries meaningfully less mulch than a mechanical one of the same tank size, and sizing a machine off gallons alone will over-promise production. A worked example
Take a 1-acre (43,560 sq ft) commercial slope at roughly 3:1, specified as BFM. The ladder puts that at 3,000 lb/acre — about 69 lb per 1,000 sq ft, or 3,000 lb total, which is 60 bales at 50 lb. On a TurfMaker 800 (325 lb of thick wood fiber per load) that is 10 loads. At a 33-minute cycle, that is roughly 5.5 machine-hours before travel and setup — which is exactly the kind of number that should drive the bid, not a guess.
